We visit the RAF Museum Hendon where we will also enjoy a traditional British 'caf' lunch before exploring this famous museum, home to a truly stunning display of aircraft, artefacts and aviation art covering the story of the Royal Air Force and the battles in which so many Canadians and Australian/NZ airmen fought. Here we will also see the famous ORIGINAL Australian Lancaster Bomber, S FOR Sugar – which survived an amazing 137 combat missions. This evening is free to take in one of the many wonderful London restaurants - or a West End Show.

Day 3. Saturday 12 September 2020:
After an early breakfast at our hotel our coach departs for Biggleswade where we will view the amazing Shuttleworth Collection. Here you can also pick up a light snack/lunch before leaving Biggleswade. We then make our way to Tempsford - a nearby secret airfield from where the flights to Europe to drop agents and supplies to the resistance groups flew from. Time allowing, we may visit St Peters Church where there is a small chapel dedicated to those who paid the supreme sacrifice when carrying out those missions. Tonight – a special treat -  dinner will be in the historic 14th Century Eagle Pub in Cambridge with its bar ceiling decorated with the signatures (and a naked women drawn in lipstick!) of the aircrew from the major nearby RAF and US 8th air force bases at Duxford.
Accommodation: Central 3*+ Cambridge Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4. Sunday 13 September 2020:
Today after breakfast we check out of our hotel and travel to Birmingham, scene of terrible destruction by the Luftwaffe during the Blitz period 1941-1943. Birmingham was the most heavily bombed city/area outside of London, as it contained much of Britain's war factories including the huge WW2 Spitfire factory at Castle Bromwich, now a Jaguar factory. Once here we will do a quick tour of the areas most affected and take a short visit to the dynamic Birmingham 'Thinktank Museum' to learn more about the Birmingham Blitz, plus take in the amazing Spitfire Gallery here which tells the story of the Spitfire with its innovative design and cutting-edge technology that played a key role in the Second World War with Birmingham's Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory producing over 10,000 Spitfires including the example on display at the Thinktank Museum. After here we travel to Shifnal, near Wolverhampton, home to the newly refurbished RAF Cosford Museum which is the sister RAF museum to Hendon. RAF Cosford houses some of the rarest aircraft in the world, especially the WW2 German FW190, V1, and the only WW2 Boulton Paul Defiant in the world. Lunch in Museum caf. The Cold War exhibition is also quite amazing with a quite superb and very rare display of aircraft and exhibits. After finishing our day here, we will travel to nearby Telford for our accommodation tonight. Dinner is not included tonight. You can either eat at our hotel or in the nearby town which has a good range of restaurants.
Accommodation: 3*+ Telford Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 5. Monday 14 September 2020:
After breakfast today we check out of our hotel for our trip to York via a quick look at RAF Lichfield (now a housing estate) which was a major WW2 training aerodrome for Australian, Canadian and other Commonwealth forces. We then move on a little further to the fascinating National Memorial Arboretum for our visit and caf lunch before departure. From here, heading towards York we will make a quick visit to RAF Snaith, where there is a quite poignant memorial to those who were killed in action flying from this base. As this is a 2 hour plus trip, we will also take a motorway rest break during the trip. We leave here for arrival in the beautiful medieval small city of York. After check in at our hotel we free time this evening to wander around this beautiful old town. Make sure you visit the breathtaking 7th century York Minster cathedral (miraculously untouched in the Luftwaffe WW2 bombing of York) - the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Dinner tonight will be at our hotel or a local restaurant.
Accommodation:  4* York central Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6. Tuesday 15 September 2020:
(Battle of Britain day) After early breakfast today we visit nearby Elvington and the Yorkshire air museum where there is a quite superb Bomber Command exhibition and collection on an old WW2 airfield that has been preserved as it was when the war ended. Also here is a very rare reconstructed Handley Page Halifax WW2 heavy bomber.  We then leave this historic location and travel to nearby Eden Camp - an ex WW2 POW camp which has been transformed into a modern history theme park, providing an extraordinary insight into the wartime world of WW2. We then leave Eden Park for our last – and very special (!) visit today to Bettys Caf Tea Rooms where food is frankly – a work of art! Late lunch here today will be an event you will remember for a very long time.. and if lunch is too much – Bettys world famous afternoon cream tea with clotted cream – quite simply divine. And the icing on the cake - Bettys Mirror 1939 - 1945. This mirror bears almost six hundred signatures, most of them aircrew - British, Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders who were stationed in this area during World War II, with  'Bettys Bar' - the Canadian Bomber crews unofficial Ops Room. We then reluctantly leave 'Bettys' and make our way back to our York Hotel. Tonight is a free night to wander this amazing town again. Dinner is not included tonight. (Note: There 'may' be a service in York Minster cathedral for this evening – 'Battle of Britain' day. If so we would advise you attend – this will be a truly magnificent event if it takes place.
Accommodation:  4* York central Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, *Lunch (*Bettys 'fine' dining)
Day 7. Wednesday 16 September 2020:
After breakfast we leave our hotel this morning for our flexible touring itinerary today, visiting a number of Canadian No 6 Group Airfields as well as other Commonwealth airfields in the North Riding of Yorkshire area from which Canadian and other Commonwealth bombers flew - such as RAF Dishforth and RAF Leeming - amongst others.  Today this spectacular countryside of the North York moors is tranquil and bucolic, but in WW2 it was at times most perilous to fly from and into as in winter – heavy fog, rain, cold, and high winds all contributed to many terrible accidents both taking off and landing heavy 4 engined bombers from these strips – especially on take-off – with the 'Lanc'  and Halifax 'heavies' loaded to the max with a full bomb and fuel load. There could also be an opportunity to see the airfields from the Air Scenic Air Tours leisure flights at Teeside airport (Optional extra) Note. We will stop for light lunch at a local tea room or restaurant in the area. Tonight we return to our York Hotel for debrief and question drinks and our 'Farewell to Yorkshire' dinner.
Accommodation:  4* York central Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Light Lunch, Dinner

Day 8. Thursday 17 September 2020:
Today after breakfast we check out of our hotel and say goodbye to beautiful York and travel to another amazing medieval city – Lincoln – also with its amazing 11th century Gothic cathedral – along with a priceless copy of the Magna Carta. Lincoln and Lincolnshire was also an epicentre of WW2 Bomber Command operations, with a number of Canadian and Australian bomber squadrons based here. Today our first stop is the beautiful new International Bomber Command Centre at Lincoln. This amazing centre, along with its soaring spire is now the definitive memorial to all who served in Bomber Command, and also hosts a detailed and fully inclusive data base of everyone who did not return. After being greeted by senior staff and then taking an extensive tour of the centre, we stop for a special delicious buffet lunch and a unique presentation by an eminent Bomber Command historian. After lunch we leave the centre and we then journey further into Bomber County with our next visit - the famous Dambusters Memorial (617 Squadron) at Woodhall Spa. After our quick visit here, we will then check into our local hotel for the next 2 nights – the famous Petwood Hotel – local pub to the famous Dambusters 617 squadron. After a quick freshen up we plan a quick visit to Tattershall Thorpe and Thorpe Camp - where the legendary 97, 617, 619 and 627 Bomber Squadrons were based in WW2. Dinner tonight at a local restaurant or the hotel.
Accommodation:  3*+ Woodhall Spa hotel: Petwood Hotel
Meals: Breakfast, Light Lunch, Dinner

Day 9. Friday 18 September 2020:

Today is another highlight on this superb tour. After an early breakfast we then check out of our hotel and then journey to nearby East Kirby and the *amazing 'bucket list' experience of travelling on an authentic Lancaster bomber: 'JUST JANE'  on an amazing 'taxy ride' - where you will travel INSIDE this WW2 Lancaster bomber on a taxi ride down the runway. With 4 merlin's thrumming, the sounds, smells and vibration inside the aircraft are the REAL thing. We know! (*Note – this 'Just Jane' taxy ride is a high cost inclusion that is included in this very special itinerary.) Today will also be a 'split day' with the group split between the 'Just Jane' experience in the morning and the afternoon – with the group rotating and visiting the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) at nearby Coningsby. The BBMF Visitors Centre is also a unique opportunity to experience - up close and personal - the iconic WW2 aircraft that made history. This is also the base for the only fully airworthy AVRO Lancaster flying in Europe (one of only 2 airworthy 'Lancs' in the world) with the world-famous Battle of Britain Memorial flight.

Based here are also six Supermarine Spitfires and two Hawker Hurricanes. It is one of the best and most visited WW2 aircraft locations in the world. (Lunch today will be 'own arrangements' due to the fluid nature of today's itinerary.) After our Just Jayne and our Coningsby experience we will then journey back to Cambridge ready for the Duxford 80th Battle of Britain air show tomorrow, where we will see the actual Battle of Britain AVRO Lancaster flying in the air show. Today we also 'could' plan to visit (if required) the famous Australian RAAF squadron bases nearby e.g. Waddington (467, 463 Squadrons) Scampton etc. This however will be only if required and on request only. Note: Today is a very LONG day! This evening on our drive back to Cambridge we will also take a motorway rest break en-route where snacks can also be purchased. On arrival in Cambridge we check into our Cambridge Hotel for the next 2 nights. Tonight you are free to wander this delightful ancient university town and sample the many restaurants available..
